This survival guide was put together in an attempt to prepare the graduate student for his/her time at OSU while pursuing an advanced degree (the Masters or Ph.D. degree). In addition, it formalizes many of the requirements and expectations of the student by the faculty of this department.

Much of the information in this guide had previously been disseminated through the time-honored method of "word-of-mouth", and thus varied according to the specific mouth that it came from. This also serves to inform the faculty of what the students should be doing at any particular time during the year.

The guide is arranged essentially in a chronological order so that as the years pass by, you can check-off each stage of your development and your training. Thanks to Dr. Gary Merrill, Dr. Ryan Mehl, Dr. Michael Freitag, and Rachel Haggerty for taking the initiative to assemble the original guide.
