2025 BB Student Awards

Goldwater Scholarship

Several BB graduate and undergraduate students received significant awards and recognition, highlighting their contributions and potential future impact on science. Congratulations to all!

Graduate Students

Hannah Stuwe (Barbar Lab) received the 2025 College of Science Inclusive Excellence Award.

Sarah Louie (Mehl/Cooley Lab) received the BB Department's Leadership/Citizenship Award.

Abraham Kpirikai (Mortimer Lab) received the 2025-2026 Mathews Fellowship Award.

Kristen Snitchler (Mortimer Lab) received the 2025-2026 Marion T. Tsefalas and Simone & Balz Frei Graduate Fellow from the Linus Pauling Institute (LPI).

Nick Bretz (Mortimer Lab) was awarded a Harvey & Donna Morre Research fellowship from the LPI.

Cameron Call (Vrailas-Mortimer Lab) received the 2025 Audrey & George Varseveld LPI Graduate Fellowship.

Mahya Payazdan (Gombart Lab) received a Young Investigator Award at the XIII International Society of Immunonutrition Conference for her oral presentation “Discovering how the expression of the cathelicidin gene is repressed by toll-like receptor signaling in response to vitamin D”. She also received the 2025 Hagen/Butler LPI Legacy fellowship from the LPI.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate researcher Estifanos Berhe (Mortimer lab) was selected as an OSU nominee for the Goldwater Scholarship.

Undergraduate Shelby Galipeau (Vrailas-Mortimer Lab) received multiple travel awards and the 2025 George Bailey Graduate Fellowship from LPI.
